ALPHABETICAL LIST OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATIONS

There are many options of drugs available to help treat high blood pressure. These medications are called antihypertensives. Most prescriptions for high blood pressure are thiazide diuretics. For some people, a diuretic alone isn’t enough to effectively control hypertension. For them, a diuretic may be combined with a beta-blocker, ACE inhibitor, angiotensin II receptor blocker, or calcium channel blocker. Adding a second medication can lower blood pressure faster than using a diuretic alone. Combining medications reduces the strength of each medication, perhaps reducing side effects.
